For many of those in Walla Walla know, the Inland Octopus sign was painted over this morning. I'm disappointed. As an artist, I'm mad at the community for painting over it. I didn't see anything wrong with it. I can see how it could be distractive to drivers or promote the Inland Octopus more than the other toy stores we don't have in Walla Walla, but that still doesn't mean that the City of WW can just paint of the mural.
Murals are to be seen. Everyday. All day. I'm sad when good art is destroyed. It's true that I've only seen the mural maybe twice in my life, but art is art. I understand that people see from different perspectives, and I need to respect that. Everyone has an opinion and I'm stating mine here and now.
This reminds me of when I learned about passive-agressive. Am I being that right now? Perhaps. My intention is to merely state what I'm thinking and feeling. There are times when I need to just rant and complain to feel better. So please bear with me.
Returning back to the Inland Octopus (IO.) I've only stepped foot in that shop maybe three times in the period that I've lived in WW. You may think that my anger is rash and that I don't have anything to base it off of, especially since I've only been to the store a few times, but we can let that pass. Remember that I'm ranting.
Returning once more. IO is the only full toy store that I can think of that WW has. I read an article a few minutes before and the owner mentioned that the City was targeting him. He used a specific title for that, but I can't recall it right now. Maybe that's true. I've never really been one to be interested in politics. I voted in the presidential election because I felt it was my right to vote as an American citizen. I agree with the idea that if you don't vote, you can't complain about what happens. Therefore, I voted.
Returning. Perhaps IO stands for something more than a toy store. Perhaps it means something to those who grew up with it. Those who watched it grow as a store. Remember Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium? Remember the store? Think that of IO. As I mentioned earlier, I don't really have much affiliation with IO, but toys are toys and art is art.
That's enough.
Tonight I went to the Senior BFA Exhibit. I'm happy that I was able to design the poster for the event and our seniors are talented artists. It makes me start to wonder what I'll do for my BFA project. Be sure to look up Mitch Grimshaw and Eva Chau. They are excellent designers.
That's enough.
